Even if you arent really a Star Wars fan, like myself, you will still find Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron 2 enjoyable to play.
The graphics in Rogue Leader are quite good since the console has only been around for several months, although they can be better than what they are. But the graphics doesnt really matter, because you will be too busy flying around, blowing up tie fighters after tie fighters, destroying shields on Star Cruises and just basically enjoying yourself to notice the graphics. Every ship is well detailed and they look just like they do on the Star Wars movies.
The sound is well done, no annoying repetitive music and all of the music you will remember from the Star Wars movies. As an added bonus, the actual characters themselves, such as Dennis Lawson, the original Wedge Antilles, do some of the voice acting.
The Gameplay is superb. There is a very long lastibility, which will keep you playing for months on end, especially if you are a Star Wars fan. There are 11 levels that make up the storyline of the game, as well as 4 bonus missions, which you have to get points, which you obtain through medals, to unlock. This can take a while if you arent a skilled player of Rogue Leader. You can also unlock hidden ships such as the Naboo Starfighter, the Tie Fighter, the big Millennium Falcon, Slave 1, Imperial Shuttle and the Tie Fighter Advanced, of which Darth Vader used at the battle of Yavin. One thing that does let the game down though is that there is no Multiplayer mode. It would have been fun vs your friends to a game of Star Wars, but hopefully Factor 5 will include this if they make another Star Wars: Rogue Leader game.
Another great thing in Star Wars is that the camera never really goes anywhere to a real annoyance, although there is the occasional time when you are weaving in and out of meteorites that the camera gets caught behind a meteor, which can be very annoying when there are a lot of meteors, such as the level The Asteroid Field where you are the Millennium Falcon. Just a single second can cause you to crash into a meteor.
Like I said before, Im not really Star Wars fan but I found Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron 2 fun, enjoyable game, and you will be playing it for several months. If you are a Star Wars fan, this is a game to buy, or at least rent.
Layout - The menus are very easy to navigate 9.2
Graphics - The graphics are excelent and is a great first 9.0
Gamecube game to buy.
Camera - Only the occasional chance when the camera 9.0
goes behind something, such as a meteor.
Control and Gameplay - The control is easy and you 9.0
get used to it very quickly. The gameplay is quite good and
will keep you playing for months.
Story - Very recognisable to Star Wars fans, and will 9.5
bring back memories of the movies
Music/Sound Effects/Voice Acting - No 8.5
annoying repetative music, sound effects could be a little
better though. The voice acting is quite good.
Secrets - The cheats, the extra stages and extra ships 9.2
adds alot of lastability to the game.
Interest/Length - The game will keep Star Wars fans 8.8
interested for a fair while, and the length of the game is
fairly good.
Opinion - A good, fun game to play. If you are a Star 8.0
Wars fan, you will remeber many moments on the game
such as when you are flying down the trench run, and
than hearing Darth Vader's voice. The game surprised
me in how fun it was to play.
Total Score - 8.5
