In an attempt to attract more 3rd party developers to the Nintendo Gamecube, Nintendo has lowered the fees for 3rd party developers to make games for the Cube. Nintendo says that cutting the costs which attract more 3rd party developers to the Cube, hopefully creating big hits such as Grand Theft Auto: Vice City on the Playstation 2.
George Harrison, senior vice president of marketing at Nintendo of America, says:
The biggest games of last year were games like GTA: Vice City, and they came from an independent publisher. We need to make sure that we have good relationships with all the independent publishers, because you never know where the next big hit is going to come from.
Hopefully, due to this, we will be seeing more 3rd party developers making games for the Gamecube, so we may be seeing some more big hits on our little console soon.
