Hes finally back! The all so famous, short, red plumber that the whole world knows, Mario, is back in another great game! It has seemed like ages ago when Mario 64 came out, and man that was stunner. Mario Sunshine lives up to its name that all of the other great Mario games that have been made before. Super Mario Sunshine shows some great gameplay, graphics and much more.
Instead of simply saving the princess like the other Mario games, they have finally decided to make it a little different. Mario, Princess Peach, Toad and the little toads have decided to go on a holiday to the sun drenched, popular holiday island, Isle Delphino. This wonderful island is usually pristine, but someone who looks like Mario has gone around and graffitied everywhere. Than when Mario arrives he is blamed for making the mess, and his punishment is to clean it all up with his trusty new friend, Fludd, a machine that is strapped to Marios back of which he can use to spray water, hover and more. Since the mess has been around, the Shine Sprites have all disappeared. Shine Sprites are what used to bring sun and happiness to the island. You must collect these to bring them back as well as to allow you to move onto the next stages. They are basicly like Stars in Mario 64.
Mario and his games are well known throughout the world, and some say that he is more famous than Mickey Mouse. Ever since his first debut, there have been numerous games on the NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gameboy and Gameboy Advance.
First off, the graphics in Super Mario Sunshine are simply unreal. Everything is so colourful and well detailed. Mario Sunshine surely catches some eyes with how colourful it is. The water effects in the game are very high, as with the lighting effects. A great graphical effect in Mario Sunshine is that when you run through some paint, you get all dirty, and you are covered with paint until you jump into the water to wash off or leave the level. And when you come out of the water, you are dripping wet.
Super Mario Sunshine isnt short of gameplay. You can spend ages in just the first part of the game in the township exploring, talking to the locals and taking in the beautiful graphics. Than, there are 120 shines to collect, which will keep you going for awhile. The only problem in Super Mario Sunshine, however, is that there are only 7 different stages, unlike Mario 64. Hopefully Nintendo will put plenty of stages in the next Mario game. But, you will first have to master all of Marios moves, especially the Fludd moves to get through the game. You will than have to use your rusty brain to figure out the puzzles and than complete it. Another problem is that the bosses are WAY to easy. You can beat nearly every boss first try.
One great thing in Super Mario Sunshine is that you control the camera 100%. Using the c-stick, you are able to move the camera in and out and all around Mario. For some people they hate having to move the camera themselves, but I personally like it, instead of getting the camera stuck behind a wall and not being able to do anything about it. It can get tricky though trying to run fast through blocks that are disappearing and trying to control the camera at the same time.
As with the other Mario games, there is that good old catchy music in Super Mario Sunshine. Each stage has their own unique music, and the secrets levels have the Mario theme song as their music.
If you are a big fan of the Mario games, you are surely going to love this next instalment of Mario platforming. If you have never played a Mario game, now is the time to start. Super Mario Sunshine surely pleases most gamers, and comes to show how good Nintendo are at making video games.
Layout A VERY simple menu that is easy to navigate. 10.0
Graphics Great, colourful graphics that makes Super 9.0
Mario Sunshine an eye catcher.
Camera 9.0
You are able to control the camera 100%. Very Handy Indeed, although it can get difficult controlingthe camera and running over disappearing blocks.
Control and Gameplay Controls are basic and easy. 9.0
There is plenty of gameplay involved and you will be playing
for ages.
Story A great, new storyline instead of saving the princess. 10.0
Music/Sound Effects/Voice Acting 8.5
Great, catchy music. Nice sound effects but too childish voice acting.
Secrets There arent all too many secrets to unlock. 5.0
Interest/Length It is great to finally have a new storyline, 8.0
although it may get boring at times. There are plenty of
Shines to collect, although there could have been more than
7 levels.
Opinion Super Mario Sunshine is another great Mario 8.5
game that adds to the many other Mario Games. The graphics
are great, music catchy, and plenty of shines to collect,
it is sad that there are only 7 levels.
Total - 9.0
